1895 First chiropractic adjustment performed on September 18, by D.D. Palmer, the founder of chiropractic.
1897 First chiropractic school, Palmer Chiropractic College, opens in Davenport, Iowa.
1923 First Chiropractic Act in Canada enacted in Alberta in 1923.
1943 First national chiropractic body, the Dominion Council of Canadian Chiropractors, established. In 1953, this body becomes the Canadian Chiropractic Association.
1945 Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College opens in Toronto, becoming the first centre for chiropractic training in Canada.
1945 Manitoba’s Chiropractic Act passes.
1950 Worker’s Compensation Board of Manitoba includes chiropractic care as a covered benefit.
1968 Canadian government brings The Medical Care Act (1966) into effect. In Manitoba, chiropractic is established as a legislated profession and is included in the public insurance program.
1969 Coverage for chiropractic continues with the introduction of the Manitoba Health Services Commission.
1972 Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPIC) includes chiropractic in its benefits package.
1980 Chiropractic Foundation for Spinal Research founded in Manitoba (it has since grown to become a significant funding organization for chiropractic in Canada).
1995 Canada Post issues a stamp commemorating chiropractic’s 100th anniversary.
2009 Manitoba government passes the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), which mandates the membership and regulatory functions for the profession.
